It’s the phone, Thackery convinced himself as he swallowed back that swelling lump in his throat, just the phone. Because the mere image of Chessur holding back tears as his large hands clutched at the receiver might just destroy him.
"I’ll be home soon. Tarrant will figure this out somehow," Thackery promised. But what right had he to promise anything in his current situation? Stranded in Underland of all god-forsaken places while his always-constant lover seemed to crumble on the other side of his somehow-still-miraculously-working phone…
"Hurry. Just … hurry the hell up." And that broken whisper just did it. It was more than enough to fuel Thackery’s fiery resolve. He’d be home soon. He’d be where he belonged and with whom he belonged before long.
